Ipod fine

This article touches on the concept of fining people for using an iPod or phone whilst crossing the road.

This is a stupid proposition.

Warnings on ipods, fuck that, if you’re too stupid to concentrate on the road instead of your ipod, then you deserve to get hit. Survival of the fittest.

You-Tube cash-ins

Tall poppy syndrome rears its head again!

Some programmers/entrepreneurs, I’m not to sure as the article doesn’t say are trying to bring equity to the world after the evil empire of Google’s You Tube video sharing service isn’t sharing the wealth with the people who post to it [article].

So, instead of sucking it in and accepting that the youtube founders came up with a good idea based on a very simple premise, they want to get their own peice of the pie and have created the web site called Si-Mi (see me), where users can upload music, video, images etc to sell to other online users.

Firstly and I HAVE to point it out because it took me a few readings of the sentence to work out that Si-Mi was meant to be pronounced See Me. This is yet another example of an idiotic marketing tactic aimed at web people, in the same vein that ICQ was meant to be a play on the sentence “I seek you”, Si-Mi is supposed to be a play on see me, as pointed out in brackets in the article that didnt register till the third read because I DONT PROUNCNCE Si-Mi as See Me, i pronounce it as Simmy as will no doubt everyone else.

That small insignificant annoyance aside, the entrepreneurs are playing on the fact that Google/YouTube doesn’t share any of the wealth it generates from having its website. What amazes me is their hypocrisy, effectively asking people to use their site meaning that they, instead of google will make money oh and at the same time promising you that you will make money on your videos.

Suffice to say, I have a number of issues with this site.

- You tube doesn’t make money off videos, only off advertising, so should not have to share the wealth at all.
- You tube is basically providing a service that alot of people like/need. If i want to watch a video clip from a song, or a funny video clip that someone saw/got by email, its an easy way to get to it rather than emailing it round to all your friends. Plus, it’s always there for reference.
- It’s free, what more is there to say, its a free space to post video’s end of friggin story. I don’t have to pay to put videos up there and I don’t have to pay to see other people videos.

I don’t want to buy video’s or sell video’s etc. If i want music i can get it from many online places and if you aren’t a big band you shouldnt be selling music if you want it to circulate and gain popularity. You can already buy images online, and ebay sells almost anything nowadays.

It seems like their trying to create a large market where only a small one existed previously, always a recipe for failure.

Plus i dont see how they can stop the numerous piracy issues, people buying off their site and posting on youtube. Selling copywrited videos not belonging to the seller.

I declare this idea stupid.

The Winamp Lyrics Plugin

The worst thing I ever did was install the winamp plug-in that searches for the lyrics of the current song you are listening to and displays them.

I’ve lost alot of respect for alot of artists due to the inane lyrics of their songs. You’d be surprised at the amount of songs that have seeming meaningful lyrics but end up being disjointed meaningful sentences that happen to rhyme but are unrelated to any of the lines around it.
