Translating TV Talk

This was from the Sydney Morning Herald:

“Desperate Housewives won the night with 1.53 million viewers, a far cry from its 2005 first season figures of 2.5 million and the 1.9 million who tuned in this time last year, but still well above the 1.43 million who watched 1 vs 100, which was down almost 500,000 viewers on last week’s debut. A Nine spokesman said the network expected 1 vs 100 would build audiences again.”

I’ll translate the last sentence to normal english:

“A Nine spokesman said the networked hoped that the drop in viewers was a temporary blip and hoped they would more viewers would tune in next week, however unlikely that would be for a show with no continuing story lines against a proven winner for Channel 7. He conceded that it was more likely that this show would slowly fade into obscurity like who wants to be a millionaire and there was nothing they could do about it other than to suprisingly have a couple of contestants win the jackpot”
